CINNAMON HONEY POPCORN

Is over-indulge actually a word? Because if it is, then I should probably start overusing it here. Especially now since I am talking about popcorn, come to think of it, if we are counting I have probably ingested loads and loads of popcorn, conscious and unconscious. My conscious is guilt-free about this revelation; it is a good feeling; overindulging and feeling nothing about it. Why would you? especially with popcorn! only this time we will spice it up with cinnamon add flavour with butter and sweeten( just enough) with honey; it is that easy! Admittedly I had slammed a satisfied stop with my butter popcorn and caramelized popcorn and was quite sceptical about trying out cinnamon honey popcorn. And to be honest the balanced flavour and cinnamon in popcorn was new yet very familiar; my reserve diminished while my expectations soared!

Cinnamon Honey Popcorn; Taste and Texture

Think of movie theatre popcorn; buttery but sweet with honey and a strong cinnamon flavour. If you are especially fond of sweetened cinnamon snacks then you will love cinnamon honey popcorn.

I had to get it right

Of course, the first thought with Cinnamon Honey Popcorn was the three main ingredients Cinnamon, Honey and popcorn. A drizzle of honey mixed with cinnamon was the base idea but this made the popcorn less crunchy as I had presumed. And similar to making homemade caramelized popcorn I revived it by tossing it in the oven for a few minutes and letting the popcorn cool slightly.

But a mix of cinnamon and honey was not enough; this is why I added butter into the mixture which yielded flavourful butter popcorn with a sweet cinnamon flavour.

How to Make Cinnamon Honey Popcorn Step By Step

Start by Popping the popcorn Kernels

Mix, oil and salt into a pan. Then add the pop kernels and pop until ready. You can alternatively pop the kernels with whichever method works for you; microwave, air poppers, oil in a pan, or electric popcorn maker.

Make the butter mixture

Mix melted butter with honey and cinnamon. The amount of cinnamon is of course adjustable to preference and the amount of popcorn.

Mix popped popcorn with the Honey mixture

Pour the honey butter mixture into the popcorn so that at least most of it is coated with it. Spread it out in a baking tray lined with parchment paper.

Bake and cool

Bake in a preheated oven set at 130C For 30 minutes. It should bake slowly at low temp to prevent it from burning. The baking part is what restores the popcorn’s crunchy texture since it softens from the honey-butter mixture. Afterwards, remove the popcorn from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving.

Recipe FAQS

Can I make Cinnamon Honey Popcorn without butter?

Yes. The butter flavour adopted in this recipe is a buttery flavour similar to the movie Theatre Popcorn but if it’s something you do not fancy you can completely omit it from the recipe. You will still need to bake the popcorn still since honey has moisture which can make the popcorn lose its crunchy feel.

Can I make Cinnamon Honey Popcorn ahead of time?

Yes. Although, similar to normal popcorn cinnamon honey popcorn when stored or kept for a while will shrink and still lose its texture. When you make it ahead of time to serve later you might want to bake it again for around 20 minutes to restore its crunchy texture.
