Ingredients For homemade vanilla Ice cream with Caramel sauce.
- Sweetened Condensed milk. Sweetened Condensed milk is not only used as a sweetener in this recipe but also adds to the creaminess of the final product. Maple syrup, honey, sugar, soft caramel are also good alternatives though the final taste and consistency of the ice cream might change.
- Heavy cream . Make sure to use good quality heavy cream. Substitute with yogurt or coconut cream if you desire to switch flavours like in homemade coconut icecream.
- Milk. The recipe calls for fresh dairy milk which ultimately adds to the richness and creaminess of the ice cream. Substitute fresh dairy milk with; oat milk, almond milk, coconut milk, Soy milk, and goat milk.
- Vanilla pods. I used fresh vanilla pods for that intense sweet vanilla flavour but vanilla extract works fine as well.
- Homemade caramel sauce.
Ingredients Measurements.
- Heavy cream 1 1/2 cups
- Milk 1 cup
- Sweetened Condensed Milk 1/2 cup
- 1/2 Vanilla pod
Procedure
- In a small pot over medium heat gently simmer the heavy cream with the scraped vanilla seeds. This is to allow maximum infusion of the vanilla into the heavy cream. Set it aside and let it cool completely cool.
- Pour the vanilla-infused heavy cream into a mixing bowl and whip for a few minutes with a hand mixer. Afterwords add in the milk and the sweetened condensed milk then continue mixing for a few minutes.
- Pour the mixture into a container preferably with a big volume rather than in a small deep one. This enables quick solidification of the ice cream in the freezer.
- Let it set in the freezer for at least 16 hours. Always ensure the container is properly sealed.
- Serve with homemade caramel sauce.
