A delicious treat to indulge in when craving chocolate and orange simultaneously. These chocolate orange cookies are easy to prep, bake and overindulge.
Besides a complete chocolate dessert, I like incorporating chocolate with different flavours. One of my favourite chocolate combinations is orange, besides strawberry and coffee. Be it in, cake, dessert cups, truffles, or cookies. A delicious orange compote would go well with a fudgy cake. Or maybe, orange churros in chocolate sauce? Perhaps an easy orange cupcake with a luscious ganache frosting.
Orange chocolate desserts are endless, and they never disappoint.
Unlike lemon zest, fresh orange zest is not entirely bitter, which is why I used it in plenty in my cookie dough. To be honest I could eat that stuff with a spoon. Thank goodness, fresh oranges are affordable. An orange flavoured chocolate piece kicks it up a notch in flavour but regular chocolate will also work as long as you have plenty of zest.
The cookies will be somewhat soft when retrieved from the oven but will slightly harden around the edges when cooled.
What to observe when making chocolate orange cookies.
- Use alkalized cocoa powder for a strong and dark chocolate flavour.
- For maximum orange indulgence, use a combination of zest of fresh oranges with orange flavoured chocolate.
- Slightly underbake the cookies so that they remain soft in the middle even after cooling. Cookies continue to bake even after retrevial from the oven.
